It Used to be Green – 1964 Jaguar E-Type Roadster

series 1This car had a lot going for it at one time. A 3.8-liter Series I Roadster, it’s among the most desirable XKEs of them all, and its original color combination of Opalescent Dark Green over a Suede Green interior must have been lovely when it was delivered in November of 1963. The years have not been kind to this one, though. But while it is rough, it is also worth saving. It looks mostly complete, is matching numbers with a Jaguar Heritage Certificate to back it up, and has significant work already done including a new bonnet, floors, rear belly pan and sills. It is missing the spare wheel, tools, jack and “misc. pieces”.

Once restored, this car, chassis 880531 out of Hanover, Massachusetts, could be an auction star. Top notch Series I E-Type Roadsters pull six figure prices pretty easily these days. For this asking price, meanwhile, you could buy a good Series II Coupe. That’s probably what I would do, but some people just like a good project, and an E-Type Roadster certainly qualifies.

Is the E-type a monocoque or a body on frame? If it’s BOF, bag that body work, by reproduction pieces in aluminum, and move on.
