Fab Fixed-Head – 1955 Jaguar XK140 MC FHC

1955 Jaguar XK140 MC FHC

Update, June 17th, 2015:  The XK140 has found a new home with an enthusiast in Southern California.  Enjoy!

The 1950s were good to Jaguar.  With no less than five overall victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, their C-Type sports racer and memorable D-Types unloaded an assault on the competition, dominating the field in 1951, ’53, ’55, ’56 and ’57.  They were exciting times for the marque. It wasn’t limited to their competition department, either. With the majorly successful XK120 winding down, Jaguar’s new XK140 model swooped in to succeed the aging model.

Offered as a roadster, drop-head and fixed-head coupe, Jaguar took their stripped-down XK120 and turned it into a refined machine that was much more user-friendly.  Similar to its predecessor, there was an available “Special Equipment”, or “Modified Competition” package as it was known in the U.S., that included a variety of features, not the least of which was the cylinder head from Jaguar’s successful C-Type competition machine.  This package capitalized the model’s sporting credentials and enabled the XK140 to produce a staggering 210HP.  The vehicle offered today is one of these special examples.

This 1955 Jaguar XK140 MC Fixed-Head Coupe is offered privately from a West Coast Jaguar connoisseur and long-time Sports Car Digest reader. Chassis S814027DN is currently dressed in an unoriginal Maroon over Silver Metallic finish. Crucially, this XK140 is being offered as a number-matching example, per its associated data plate and the xkdata.com Registry.

Described as a “great restoration candidate”, the seller points out that the engine was overhauled in 2013 and that the car is very reliable, with all systems functioning as they should.  As mentioned, this example is equipped with the desirable, “Modified Competition” package that included an overdrive transmission, “J” headlamps, fog lamps, dual exhaust and a windshield washer.  Chassis S814027DN is also currently fitted with electronic ignition, electric radiator fan, NOS fuel pump and recent Coker white-wall tires for a trouble-free experience.

The items below are included in the sale of the Jaguar:

  • Clean California title
  • Documentation and records of work performed during current ownership

This XK140 MC is described to be a solid foundation, devoid of major rust, but with paintwork that is beginning to show its age.  With a leaping cat atop the incorrect radiator cap, there are some obvious details that need some fine tuning, but the overall package is highly tempting and we feel it would make a fantastic long-distance event machine with its stout mechanicals.

The 1955 Jaguar XK140 MC Fixed-Head Coupe is offered privately at $69,000 USD and is available for immediate inspection.  For questions or to schedule an appointment to view the XK140 at its Tehachapi, California home please Click Here.

Very beautiful, even it is not wholly original.

  2. Sweet.

  3. Michael Rogers says:

What a way to disrespect Sir Lyons design masterpiece by artificially creating lines of paint at odds with the original body I doubt that a low rider would do worse in his sled

  4. Anonymous says:

Nice as the paint job is it distracts from the perfect lines of Sir Williams master peace.

  5. I think it would be much nicer in the one colour – maroon, along with chrome wire-wheels.
